What matters

Resize once from the best available source, keep aspect ratio, preview text and gradients at 100%, and avoid repeated lossy saves. Compare output size only after checking visible artifacts.

A safe workflow

Keep the source unchanged.
Test on a representative copy.
Review the output for meaning, not only file size or a green status.
Record the settings that worked.

Common mistake

Automation can make a wrong assumption repeat faster. Confirm encoding, units, schema meaning or visual quality before applying a result broadly.

Evaluate the delivered size

Compression artifacts are easiest to judge at the actual display dimensions. Zooming far beyond normal use can exaggerate defects, while checking only a thumbnail can hide unreadable labels and edge halos.

A/B review

Export two quality levels from the same original.
Compare them beside the original at 100% display size.
Check faces, text, gradients and high-contrast boundaries.
Choose the smaller copy only when the visible difference is acceptable.

Repeated conversion

Repeatedly saving a lossy JPEG can accumulate damage. Return to the original for each new export instead of converting an already compressed delivery file.
